Organize your videos with Claude

Too many clips to even start? Let Claude sort them into A-roll and B-roll, and name every clip after what is happening in it.

By the end: your videos sit in two folders, A-roll for you talking and B-roll for everything else, and every file name tells you what is in it.

Start here

Five steps. This is all you need to sort your first batch.

1

Get Claude Pro

You need the Pro plan for this. It is around $20 a month. Prices change, so check the pricing page before you buy.

2

Open the chat

Download the Claude app on your computer and open a new chat. This is where you will paste the prompts below.

3

Put your clips in one folder

Claude can only sort what is on your computer. Make a folder called Reel clips and get your videos into it.

  • Easiest: AirDrop the clips from your phone to your Mac.
  • Or open the Photos app on your Mac, select the videos and choose File, then Export.
  • Clips living only in iCloud? Download them to your Mac first.
ImportantWork on copies. Keep the originals on your phone until you are happy with the result.
4

Ask Claude to sort them

In the chat, point Claude at your folder and paste this. It makes two folders: A-roll for the clips of you talking, and B-roll for everything else. Say yes when it asks for permission.

Paste this, then fill the bracket
I need to organize my videos to make reels. They are in this folder: [folder path]. Create two folders: A-roll for the clips of me talking to camera, and B-roll for everything else. Show me your plan first and wait for my yes. Move the files, never delete anything.
TipNot sure of the path? Drag the folder into the Claude box and it fills in for you.
5

Rename every clip

This is the best part. Once the folders look right, ask Claude to name each clip after what is happening in it. It may ask to install a small free tool so it can look inside your videos. Say yes.

Paste this
Rename everything inside the folders to include what is happening in the clip. Keep the original number at the start and keep the file type. Keep each name short and plain, like "pouring coffee in the kitchen".

Now search your folder for "coffee" or "retake" and the clip you need is right there.

Next level

Do this once the first batch works.

6

Save it as a skill

Tell Claude to remember the whole routine. Next time you only say "organize my new clips" and it does both steps.

Paste this
Save this clip routine as a skill called [organize-my-clips]: sort clips into an A-roll folder and a B-roll folder, show me the plan first, then rename each clip after what is happening in it. Use it whenever I say "organize my new clips".

If it goes wrong

Claude keeps asking permission

Say yes. It needs permission to open your folder, move files and rename them.

It cannot find your clips

Drag the folder into the Claude box so it gets the exact path.

A clip landed in the wrong folder

Tell Claude which clip and where it should go. That is why we ask for the plan first.

The names are too long or too vague

Say what you want, for example "shorter names, max 6 words", and ask it to redo them.
